Dave Smallhouse has been making quality art glass for the last 21 years with Orient & Flume Art Glass inc. He continues this excellence with a new palette of colors and array of new designs and shapes in his own studio.

After graduating from high school in his hometown of Bakersfield, California, Dave Smallhouse served in Vietnam. Upon his return he studied in San Diego before coming to Chico State to earn his Bachelors of Arts degree in Ancient & Classical History. In 1980 he joined Orient & Flume and immediately acquired a passion for glassblowing that has driven him to mastery.

Among his many accomplishments in the field he was personally requested to create the inaugural mace for the 1994 incoming president of Chico State University, Manuel Esteban, himself a former glassblower.

Among Dave's most popular designs include the "Lapis" in jars, urns and vases. This design and several of his others during this period mimic the stone of their names. The "Pilsner" vase in several different designs and the "Two-tone Floral" which became one of Orient & Flume's signature Series. The "Cypriot" series of compotes and vases was influenced by his Classical history background. Other popular designs were the "Santa Fe" series and the "Bag Vase" as well as the whimsical "Brain" paperweight and his series of frog paperweights.

In 1982 Dave married and has four children. Today he works closely with his wife and children in their own studio and his enthusiasm for glassblowing has only grown.
